お正月ルカリオ(羽織袴)

It’s been a while since The Best Pokémon has graced my main blog, so here u go

An update of sorts

Gosh I haven’t been here in ages, have I?

I’m not gonna give a detailed breakdown of all that’s been going on in my life since, I dunno, when’s the last time most of you have heard from me? But I will go ahead and let ya’ll know what’s up right now.

I’m taking a break from MSU to get my head back on my shoulders. In the meantime, I’m working at the Office Depot in Meridian, and taking just enough courses at MCC that I don’t have to start making payments on my loan. Most personal projects are on hold for the time being. I’ve finally got some hardware decent enough to continue music production with, so as soon as I get Revitar in a state where I like it, I’ll be picking that up again. My boyfriend managed to convince me to give Arch a try, and I’m extremely satisfied with it, so it has replaced Linux Mint MATE as my main OS of choice.

Speaking of my boyfriend, I’m currently sitting on his bed, watching him play video games and he’s still cute as fuck

The boy lay asleep in his bed while the muted sounds of traffic on the street below echoed through the shut windows. After pacing up and down his room the entire night, he’d finally passed out from sheer exhaustion earlier that morning. For once, he was calm; his breathing had been slow and steady, his chest visibly growing and shrinking with every breath of air drawn and released.

His boyfriend stepped into the room, closing the door softly behind him. He put his large green-patterned bag in the corner, walked over to the boy’s bedside, bent over and kissed him tenderly on his forehead; pulling up a chair, he held the boy’s hand, wrapping his red, sore fingers around the boy’s stiff, cold digits.

The boy began to stir, opening his eyes ever so slightly. “Shhh… don’t wake up,” he was told. “You need to rest.”

“You’re back,” the boy whispered.

“Yes, I’m back. I’m alright.” His boyfriend’s voice was croaking and hoarse, but still filled with affection.

“It’s been hell,” the boy replied. “It’s been hell without you.”

“I was thinking of you the whole time. I missed you.”

“I love you.” The boy was nearly in tears.

“I love you too… I really, really do.”

“When will things get better?” He could feel himself choking up.

“I don’t know. Maybe it never will.”

i am seriously creeped out by skype

ok i just gotta say

  • the skype application is insanely obfuscated with like a dozen different traps to keep anyone from seeing how it works—i stress that i cannot name a single other application that tries so hard to hide what it’s doing, including actual malware

  • one of the founders of skype was the CEO of kazaa, the application that as i recall pretty well started the adware plague—consider in light of the above

  • anyone who attempts to build an alternative skype client gets nasty letters from lawyers, even though reverse engineering for interoperability is explicitly legal (not to mention that the taken-down code is presumably not owned by Skype/Microsoft anyway)

  • some nerd suspects that a change to the skype network last year may have been to make skype wiretap-able

  • and i guess there’s that recent debacle where microsoft was hitting HTTPS links sent over skype for some reason and gave a totally bs explanation

i’m not accusing anyone of anything—i am a big fan of hanlon’s razor—but suffice to say my nerd parts have been really uncomfortable since the beginning

(it’s fascinating to watch microsoft maintain a linux application though)

i was looking for this and hadn’t tagged it “skype” because i’m dumb so now i’m reblogging it and tagging it “skype”

but while i’m at it, some updates:

  • today the EFF revoked its scorecard check for end-to-end encryption in skype, i.e., they believe it’s plausible that microsoft can see all your messages

  • skypekit, their half-assed SDK, is now gone. so there is no officially-sanctioned way to use skype other than with skype programs, at all.

  • it has ads now. are you serious? the whole point of skype is that it routes through other skype users’ computers, which means it doesn’t need much central server power. so what the hell are the ads paying for?

i’m super disappointed that skype seems to be becoming the AIM of the 2010s. i had hoped google talk would catch on since who doesn’t have a gmail account now, but the google talk app was only ever for windows and now google is fucking things up with hangouts. argh.

pidgin for gtalk still works for now at least

re-reblogging to add that, according to some folks I follow here, they’ve started rolling out in-call autoplaying video ads with audio

But they’re no basis for a system of government!

“Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear that the two of you, on some level belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand one another or you’re in love or you’re partners in crime. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they help you feel alive. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something.”

Depression

korozjin:

What I have experienced, personally, is a lot like falling through a trap door to find yourself stuck in a huge, dark room. You can see the obvious way out, through the hole much too far away to even brush against if you were to jump with all your might. The shock of it leaves you sitting there looking up trying to figure out how to reach it.

This is initually what happens when you fall into a depressive episode, many times it’s too overwhelming and you feel powerless over it.

Once you’ve fallen down enough times you start to realize there was another way down there, another way out. You start to leave that familiar place, the comfort of sitting in the tiny chasm of light, and feel around for something that could help you out. A light switch, a staircase, a ladder, anything.

If you can get help you start to develop methods of being able to at least cope with it, and hopefully overcome these trials much more readily.

With your first success you start to memorize the layout of the room. There’s a lot of rubble in it, and it’s very difficult to navigate it because of its size. But you’re familiar with it. You built it.

There are many causes of depression. In my case it was a lot of negativity and abuse I had internalized because I spent most of my life without anyone to talk to about how I was feeling. Once you realize *what* the issues are it becomes easier to address them.

You then start to think about what’s in that room, realizing it’s stuff that’s fallen through the cracks. Occasionally you go down there with a flashlight and start cleaning up stuff. Throwing away old things, cleaning up and salvaging good things.

When we go through the process of self-discovery and rectifying issues that may exacerbate troubles we go through, we leave less to drag us down.

Finally, you are able to come in with your shiny new tools, patch up that stupid trap door, and leave the room as you please.

It may still come loose and you may fall back through, but you know the way out.

There’s always a way out.

So, Tumblr

On your recommendation I’ve started watching Supernatural. It’s pretty okay, but I keep falling asleep in the middle of the episodes, so I’m only on episode 3.

Having the right to free speech does not entitle you to an audience, just as having an armpit does not entitle you to armpit sniffers.

Also for those of you who still aren’t aware, theblackparrot and I have been dating for just over a month now

Oh let’s take a screenshot of this post on my dash and post it on my blog that so I can get a bunch of notes instead of reblogging it
